On Thursday, October 13th we will be celebrating World Sight Day to bring these issues to light

Did you know that on our planet over one billion people cannot see well, simply because they do not have access to glasses and other eye care services? How staggering is that number? There are 43 million people in the world who are blind and 295 million people who have moderate or severe visual impairment. Of all the people in the world living with blindness, 90% of them live in low-income countries. These numbers are too high, and no one should have to live this way. Healthcare interventions that work to restore sight and prevent blindness are among the most cost-effective out there, and 80% of visual impairment is avoidable in the sense that it can either be readily treated or prevented with the appropriate measures.

Love Your Celebrate World Sight Day

On Thursday, October 13th we will be celebrating World Sight Day to bring these issues to light and help close the gap between access to eye care and the best eyesight possible, for everyone everywhere. Be sure to visit us on Thursday, October 13th to save 20% off on all sunglasses purchases, with a prescription or without. We aren’t limiting the celebration to just the 13th though, we are celebrating all month long! We are donating $4 from every eye exam for the entire month of October to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in support of their Love Your Eyes campaign. For more information on the Love Your Eyes campaign, please click here.

Stay tuned for our next post to learn all about the amazing work the IAPB does to help close the gap. What can you do to #LoveYourEyes? Schedule a visit with your Ottawa Doctor of Optometry to ensure that your eye health is the best it can be. We offer comprehensive health care for your eyes. When you come in for your eye exam, the refraction – or testing for the glasses prescription – is only part of the care you receive. Our eye exams also include retinal scans, visual fields, and Opto-Map imaging for an extensive look at the inside of your eye. We can also add a contact lens fitting to your exam, so you have the option for both glasses and contact lenses. We can also help you #LoveYourEyes with visits to our Dry Eye Clinic and Ottawa Vision Therapy. After your visit with your Ottawa Doctor of Optometry, be sure to see one of our amazing Dispensers in our optical boutique to select new sunnies and stylish specs that suit you best! Help us celebrate World Sight Day and #LoveYourEyes by clicking here to book your exam or a glasses-shopping appointment. We cannot wait to see you!
