Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa Round Up for 2022

Our initiative this summer to help The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa prepare local kids in need for the 2022-2023 school year was a total success! During the months of July and August, we donated $10 from each pair of glasses sold to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BCGO) to outfit students in need with backpacks full of school supplies to set them up with all the tools they need for a great school year. We also donated the leftover funds to the BCGO to provide future support to their amazing work.

The BCGO provides children and youth across the city with a safe space and free access to life-changing programs designed to drive personal development. They also provide opportunities to ensure each child has a chance to experience summer camp. Please visit BCGO’s website to read more about its amazing initiatives.

Unfortunately, local youths in vulnerable areas across our community do not have the means to access all they need to set them up for school. In fact, the need this year was greater than ever before. The request for donations to the BCGO this year was 50% higher than in any of the previous years we have partnered with them. The BCGO also specifically requested supplies for older kids attending grades 7 through 12. Here at Merivale Vision Care, we believe every student – regardless of circumstance – should have the opportunity for a great upcoming school year and a bright future ahead. Last year, we set up 210 students with backpacks and school supplies.

With your help, this year we were able to provide 300 students with their own excellent quality, stylish backpacks filled to the brim with all the supplies they need for a great school experience. We were able to raise a grand total of $11,300.00 for the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa! How amazing!

Volunteers from our team recently got together for a backpack packing party to fill all 300 of the backpacks with all the supplies for the amazing students who would benefit from the funds we raised from our BCGO initiative. The smiles were incredible as each student received their backpack. These supplies mean one less worry on their minds as they head into the new school year and everything that comes along with it.
